The international non-profit Architecture for Humanity runs innovative competitions that match up socially-minded designers with housing needs in disaster zones, schools, hospitals and the like. Just announced: the finalists for their latest competition, a call for new classroom designs for partner schools worldwide. The finalists range from an outdoor classroom for children in inner-city Chicago to learning spaces for the children of salt pan workers in India. The winner will be announced in September.

Four years after Hurricane Katrina, the Louisiana Superdome is undergoing a much-needed facelift, courtesy the efforts of three local firms: Billes Architecture, Trahan Architects, and Sizeler Thompson Brown Architects. Most interesting to us at azuremagazine.com, however, is how they met their clients' request for new windows — without breaking up the iconic stadium's monolithic silhouette.
