Yesterday marked the official opening of Toronto's Sugar Beach, which replaces an industrial site-cum-parking lot at the foot of Jarvis Street that once stood bereft of greenspace and waterfront access.

Today, the team of Adamson Associates Architects and Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners won the much-discussed competition to rebuild the north building in Toronto's historical St. Lawrence Market Complex.

The elevated space that encircles Toronto's City Hall is now a green retreat, designed by Plant Architect Inc. in partnership with Shore Tilbe Irwin & Partners, furniture designer Adrian Blackwell, Chicago landscape architect Peter Schaudt, and tree consultant Jim Urban.

Developers, construction experts, and architects met at Toronto's Board of Trade last week to hear of the city's strategies for accommodating the Pan Am Games in 2015. By all accounts, there is much to be done and very little time to do it.
