Animatus: Hyungkoo Lee

South Korean artist Hyungkoo Lee latest exhibit involves the reconstructions of cartoon characters’ skeletons. From Bugs Bunny to Donald Duck, Hyungkoo gave the skeletons Latin names and modeled the forms down to the smallest details, crossing the lines between natural science and art.

Tacita Dean, Merce Cunningham performs Stillness to John Cage’s composition

Tacita Dean’s new 6-part film installation came about when Dean filmed Merce Cunningham performing with Trevor Carlson at the Cunningham Studio in 2007 and used the shots to produce the film projection.

Terence Koh: Captain Buddha

Terence Koh transfers post-minimalist and body art influences of the ’70s into a universe of his own. The Chinese-Canadian artist displays white objects – a hand, strings, buckets, a toilet, a dead bird and a flag – in a white room, attempting to draw the viewer into his pale world.

Mark Fox: Dust

Fox began drawing the clutter of objects that filled his studio in 2001, and embarked on a “meditation of ownership” by drawing each possession separately. John Zorn Presents: The Aleph-Bet Project

Zorn is leading fellow musicians, composers and artists in a series of commissioned sound pieces that acoustically explore the Hebrew alphabet. Linking the alphabetic symbols found throughout Daniel Libeskind’s architecture with the museum’s mission of rethinking tradition through its programming, the artists will be inspired by the Kabbalistic principle that the ancient Hebrew alphabet is a spiritual tool full of hidden meaning and harmony.
